Starting point of the exhibition concept is the observation that a book is a three-dimensional object. If one understands the individual pages as walls that can stand at different angles to one another, a book would be a multi-walled exhibition space that can be compressed into a very small space. Transferred back to an exhibition architecture, the curators develop two wall modules, each with orthogonally crossing walls, two ×-modules. In the resulting corners (the sides of the room, so to speak), eight artistic positions are presented that deal with the spatial situation in very different ways.
Subsequently, a publication is created in which the exhibition walls are transferred to book pages, reduced to scale. The book becomes the model of the exhibition, the room pages become book pages. The two-dimensional space of digital displays is increasingly displacing analog perception, and the exhibition and book formats are also affected. The exhibition project hopefully counters this with its walk-in room book/book space.
Der Ausgangspunkt des Ausstellungskonzepts ist die Feststellung, dass ein Buch ein dreidimensionales Objekt ist. Begreift man die einzelnen Seiten als Wände, die in unterschiedlichen Winkeln zueinanderstehen können, wäre ein Buch ein vielwändiger, auf kleinstem Raum komprimierbarer Ausstellungsraum. Rückübertragen auf eine Ausstellungsarchitektur entwickeln die beiden Kuratoren und Verleger (www.permanentverlag.de) zwei Wandmodule mit sich jeweils orthogonal kreuzenden Wänden, zwei ×-Module. In den so entstehenden Ecken (sozusagen den Raumseiten) werden acht künstlerische Positionen präsentiert, die auf sehr unterschiedliche Weise mit der räumlichen Situation umgehen.
Im Anschluss entsteht eine Publikation, bei der die Ausstellungswände maßstabsverkleinert auf Buchseiten übertragen werden. Das Buch wird zum Modell der Ausstellung, die Raumseiten werden zu Buchseiten. Der zweidimensionale Raum der digitalen Displays verdrängt zunehmend die analoge Wahrnehmung, auch die Formate Ausstellung und Buch sind davon betroffen. Das Ausstellungsprojekt hält mit seinem begehbaren Raumbuch/Buchraum hoffnungsvoll dagegen.
