Die Möglichkeit einer Insel is pleased to host Gelateria Esistenzialista, a performative pop-up ice cream store conceived by Stef Heidhues and Stephanie Kloss. The artists wear costumes designed by BIEST Berlin and make ice cream that resembles concrete, serving it as a subversive act, juxtaposing pleasure with existential inquiry.
On the other hand, the interior concrete walls display in-store, a selection of never before exhibited artworks from Erik Schmidt’s 2015 Ice Milk series, found and curated by Silvio Saraceno. In these paintings, tumultuous moments and smoky, potentially violent scenes are morphed into vanilla ice cream scoops through the artist’s brushstrokes.
The smoke envelops figures and subtle hints of human presence, such as in the special act of choreographer and performer Karol Tymiński, who closes event’s final day with an extract from his show SETI, originally premiered at the ImPulsTanz Festival in 2021.
